Why Does a Koch Industries Electronics Manufacturing Plant Require Special Structural Engineering Solutions?

Koch Industries, the second-largest privately held company in the United States, generates approximately USD 125 billion in annual revenue. Within its ecosystem, Molex is one of the world's leading manufacturers of electronic connectivity solutions, cable assemblies, and high-speed data transmission infrastructure.

Molex products are widely used across the automotive, mobile device, networking infrastructure, server, and data center industries. Today, Molex serves as a supplier to many of the world's leading technology companies, including Apple and Nvidia.

Molex is developing its new manufacturing facility at Thang Long II Industrial Park, Hung Yen Province, Vietnam. The project covers nearly 7 hectares with a total investment of USD 128 million and will specialize in the production of network cables, fiber-optic components, optical modules, and high-speed interconnect cable assemblies.

These products play a critical role in supporting the server, data center, and digital infrastructure industries—one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global economy today.

SEICO is proud to deliver the integrated structural steel solution and SP Deck composite flooring system for the Molex Hung Yen Factory project.

For facilities manufacturing electronic components, semiconductors, SMT assemblies, PCBs, and other high-tech products, structural steel requirements extend far beyond load-bearing capacity and safety. Production equipment in these environments is highly sensitive to:

• Structural vibration
• Foundation movement and floor oscillation
• Lateral displacement caused by wind loads

More importantly, the structure must maintain long-term operational stability by tightly controlling vibration, deflection, and displacement throughout the building's service life.

High-tech manufacturing lines and precision equipment are particularly sensitive to structural vibration, floor movement, lateral drift under wind loads, and deformation of supporting beams or suspended platforms.

To meet these stringent requirements, SEICO optimized the structural solution from the design stage, enhancing the overall stiffness of the steel frame system while controlling deflection and vibration limits in accordance with the factory's operational demands.

In addition, the SP Deck composite flooring system increases floor rigidity, minimizes localized vibration, accelerates construction progress, and provides a stable platform for the installation of precision manufacturing equipment.
